HISTORY of B'nai B'rith Players

B’nai B’rith Players started from a small group of members of B’nai B’rith Syd Einfeld Unit who, in 1998, were interested in creating a group which would provide opportunities for performance for the Community and creativity for our members, while supporting Charity with the proceeds.

We are supporting Art and Culture by providing B’nai B’rith and the wider community with quality Jewish entertainment.

·       In 1998, we started with a short performance of one episode of CLUEDO by Syd Einfeld members.

·       In 1999 we formed the B’nai B’rith Players, and staged  "Sex, Love & Meshugas" - 3 Short Plays - Wanda's Visit by Christopher Durang, an extract from You Can't Take It With You by Morris Kaufman, and Family Lore by Michael Cove.  This was greeted with acclaim – so was repeated at the 2nd Sydney Jewish Arts Festival as "Take Two".

·       2000 saw us perform “Esther's Lot - a Purim Spiel” - in 3 renditions – a Story Telling by Donna Sife, "Purim Politics" - written & directed by Yvonne Perczuk and "A Musical Purim" - Gilbert & Sullivan version, scripted by Judy Shapira, updated & directed by Chris Hill.

·       Later in 2000, we produced The Sisters Rosensweig – by Wendy Wasserstein

·       The following years saw us performing several concerts for charity – for the Montefiore Homes at Woollahra and Hunters Hill, and the Burger Centre.  These included musical pieces, dance numbers, and recitations.

·       In 2005, we performed "Love, Marriage & Oy Vey!" – 2 Acts from Neil Simon’s PLAZA SUITE, and Jack Feldstein’s A NEW YEAR.

·       In 2006, we staged another full length play, “Morning’s at Seven” by Paul Osborne - a comedy revolving around four sisters living in close proximity, with their conflicts and life revelations.

·       In 2007, it was time for a Pantomime “Esterella – a PurimSpiel.

Since our inception, we have donated over $20,000 to charities from our proceeds of performances.

What a great way to raise money and have a great time at the same time.
