BBANZ, together with other human-rights NGOs in Australia, was invited to respond to a series of 145 recommendations made to the Australian Government following Australia’s appearance before the UN Human Rights Council for its Universal Periodic Review. (Each three years or so, each member state of the UN is subject to review of its domestic human rights record and practice, with the review conducted by the various member states of the HRC.)

Our response reflects our views and concerns on a dozen or so of the recommendations, principally in the areas of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, refugee and asylum-seeker issues, incitement to hatred, climate change, and internet-based discrimination.
