Unit Akiba’s members enjoy a range of cultural and social activities that aim to improve understanding and participation in the world around us.

Akiba is involved in both local and Jewish community service activities, as well as, fundraising for both local and Israeli beneficiaries. For example, Akiba has supported programs within B’nai B’rith (e.g. Courage to Care, Anti Defamation) and beyond (e.g. Royal Children’s Hospital, Jewish National Fund, Anti Defamation Fund).

The group actively provides support for its members during times of joy and need. Members benefit from monthly meetings, guest speaker presentations, a cultural enrichment program, restaurant nights (every second month), a music appreciation group, special fundraising events, and by delivering gifts at Pesach and Rosh Hashana to elderly.

Akiba is also working with Jewish Care and the St Kilda Scout Group to establish a new group for disabled Jewish children. Akiba has also focused on learning about Islam and the Islamic way of life.
