In 2022, B’nai B’rith established a First Nations Reconciliation Project committee, committed to collaborating with other community organisations to increase awareness of the injustices experienced by the First Nations people of Australia and reinforcing closer connections between the Jewish and Aboriginal communities.
Since that time, this committee has:
- Instigated the establishment of a Community Reconciliation Project under the auspices of the JCCV, which now includes, The Ark Centre, Stand Up and others working together
- Undertaken a series of events through which to provide the opportunity for B’nai B’rith members and the wider community to foster their understanding of what support for First Nations Reconciliation actually means.
- Established connections with First Nations elders and representatives in order to fulfil its objectives
Activities run by this very active committee will continue through 2023 and beyond, focusing initially on the imminent referendum regarding an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
