Featuring “Boychiks in the Hood: Travels in the Hasidic Underground” by Robert Eisenberg

The discussion will be led by Myer Bloom.

Armed with the Yiddish his grandmother gave him Robert Eisenberg, a modern American Jew with distant Hasidic roots, sets off to investigate Hasidic communities in the US, UK, Europe and finally Israel. He explores the religious experience and traditions amongst a cast of intense, opinionated and irreverent individuals. And they really are characters. In fact, each chapter is a vignette in its own right; a snapshot of each community that resembles a scene from a movie. This book is a respectful yet revealing and informative exposé of the little understood – and often misunderstood – Hasidic world, told with humour and wit.
