[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]B’nai B’rith, which was formed 180 years ago to care for the disadvantaged and the oppressed, has not lost its raison d’etre even after all these years.<\/p>\n

On Monday this week, a number of Jewish organisations came together with Stand Up and JCCV to launch the Kol Halev ‘Jewish Voice for Yes’ campaign in the forthcoming Referendum. B’nai B’rith should be very proud of the fact that we were instrumental in starting that momentum within our community two years ago, following Aunty Marcia Langton’s Human Rights Oration, jointly sponsored by us and the JCCV.<\/p>\n

Since then, our B’nai B’rith First Nations Reconciliation Project has run a number of functions to bring knowledge to the community on the history, the culture and the need for recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was therefore heartening to receive acknowledgement of that fact at the sold out launch, where some 300 people sat and listened to Professor Langton AO giving the keynote address.<\/p>\n

As Stand Up put it:
\n“We heard from the esteemed Prof Marcia Langton AO, who spoke of the history of dispossession and displacement of First Nations people and how small acts of reconciliation go a long way to healing the hearts of her people. And from Jamil Tye and Dr Todd Fernando who spoke of the practical impacts that The Voice will have on Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people – and how much it means to have Constitutional recognition. Thank you to all our speakers and to Rabbi Ralph Genende, who moderated the panel discussion with sensitivity and curiosity.”<\/p>\n

All in all, this was a very positive and successful project of which B’nai B’rith can be proud.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”5099,5098,5097,5096,5095″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n
