Sydney Unit was instituted in February 2007, following the merger of members from Sydney Lodge, Sydney Chapter and Masada Unit. Sydney Lodge was the first B’nai B’rith entity in Australia, established in 1944.

Sydney Unit comprises over 150 members of senior age. Age is no barrier though, with members actively participating in multiple outreach and social programs to support the work of B’nai B’rith NSW.

Members attend regular lecture evenings, work to assist residents of the Montefiore Home, volunteer at Bargain Bazaar, provide financial help and welfare assistance to many worthy causes and people in need, provide scholarships and support to Jewish day schools and are dedicated to ongoing support for Israel.

Through its charitable trust, Sydney Unit distributes funds to charities (Jewish and non-Jewish alike), including Jewish schools, medical research, Magen David Adom, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Courage to Care, Jewish Care, JCA, and to a variety of Israeli projects.
