Bernard J. Lustig Memorial Scholarship

Supports outstanding tertiary students in the achievement of their potential as scholars and as leaders in our community

The B’nai B’rith Bernard J. Lustig Scholarship was established by B’nai B’rith Youth Melbourne in 1956 to commemorate its second President, Bernard J. Lustig, a brilliant young barrister, who tragically died in a car accident in January 1955.

The $3000 scholarship is offered in two separate categories:

  1. A travel grant to outstanding student leaders at university level, to assist with travel costs to participate in overseas study programs.
  2. A research grant to master’s and doctoral candidates to fund costs associated with their research activity.

The criteria for assessing scholarship applications are:

  • Academic ability
  • Leadership ability and track record
  • Involvement in the life of the Jewish and wider community

Applications close 20 July 2026.

Donations to the Lustig Scholarship are now tax deductible, so if you would like to support B’nai B’rith in its efforts to encourage and reward our community’s young leaders, visit www.bnaibrith.org.au/victoria/donate-now/
