B’nai B’rith has long been dedicated to fostering Jewish values and promoting social, with firm beliefs in the power of community engagement and the importance of making a difference in the lives of others. Similarly, Mitzvah Day Australia has inspired social action within the Jewish community by facilitating meaningful volunteer projects and encouraging acts of kindness.
B’nai B’rith and Mitzvah Day Australia will combine strengths and resources to create a formidable force for positive change, expanding the reach and impact of Mitzvah Day.
We are confident that this partnership will benefit the communities we serve and inspire others to take action and make a positive contribution, not just on Mitzvah Day but always. Together, we will continue to foster a culture of empathy, kindness, compassion, and unity that transcends religious and cultural boundaries.

What is Mitzvah Day?
Mitzvah Day was born out of the belief that we can all make a positive difference to our world by taking action – together. On a single day, Mitzvah Day, the Jewish community together with other communities and individuals wanting to improve the world in some small way, take part in a range of activities simply to help others. For example, On Mitzvah Day participants collect and distribute food, befriend and sing to seniors and people that are socially isolated, clean parks, prepare food and make and send gifts to needy children.
Our vision is to reduce hardship and poverty, to help our environment and to bring a little joy where it is needed, all through hands-on participation. It is a way for people to take an active part regardless of their religion, age, sex or location. Mitzvah Day brings enthusiastic volunteers to those who need support.
Mitzvah Day serves as a platform for creating local relationships, Jews with Jews and Jews with those from other faiths and communities. By working together for the common good we build stronger communities making them better places to live.
Mitzvah Day International was launched in the UK in 2008. Last year over 40,000 volunteers from 21 countries participated in over 1,200 varied social action projects, making a meaningful and long-term difference across a range of compelling causes and charities.
Such was the enthusiasm and uptake here in Australia and New Zealand that in 2022 we had over 40 organisations participate in over 45 projects in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and New Zealand.
