Eleanor Reissa In-Conversation with Scott Whitmont

Yesterday, B’nai B’rith, in collaboration with Courage to Care and Melbourne Jewish Book Week, hosted an ‘in-conversation’ event featuring the remarkable Eleanor Reissa. The acclaimed playwright, director, songstress, actress and author captivated the room with her extraordinary blend of historical exploration and personal narrative from her new book, The Letters Project, A Daughter’s Journey, which delves into her family’s Holocaust experiences and their aftermath.

Reissa read through several passages and eloquently navigated a spectrum of emotions—informative, poignant, excruciating, startling, humorous and ultimately inspiring—presenting the audience with a rare, multi-dimensional view of history intertwined with her intimate family drama. Her presentation transcended mere recounting; it was a courageous exploration of memory, trauma and the complex threads of inter-generational storytelling.

Scott Whitmont, known for his engaging interview style and deep literary knowledge, expertly guided the conversation, drawing out Reissa’s reflections on her profound experiences.
